POST 1986 EXPLORER RANK STRUCTURE

|
CAPTAIN
Highest rank in Post organization. The Captain is responsible for the
administration of the post. The Captain will delegate administrative duties
to the Post executive officers as he or she seems fit. The Captain may issue
orders to Explorers under his/her command. Only a Police Officer may
give an order that supersedes the Captain's. |

FIRST LIEUTENANT
Second highest rank in the Post. Responsibilities include assisting
Post Captain in his/her duties and shall be considered in full command
in the absence of the Captain. Duties of the First Lieutenant will
be designated by the Post Captain. |

SECOND LIEUTENANT
Third highest rank in the Post. Responsibilities include assisting
Post Captain in his/her duties and shall be considered in full command
in the absence of the Captain and First Lieutenant. Duties of the Second
Lieutenant will be designated by the Post Captain. |

MASTER SERGEANT
Fourth highest rank in the Post. Responsibilities and duties will be
designated by the Post Captain. Unless otherwise specified by the Post
Captain the Master Sergeant will be responsible for issuing commands
during Drill and Ceremony. The Master Sergeant will serve as the
communications link between the Post Executive Officers and the
other members of the Post. |

STAFF SERGEANT
Fifth highest rank in the Post. The Staff Sergeant is a Non-Administrative Explorer whose main responsibility is to look after the District Sergeants and make sure they have up to date information on their squads and the Post. If a District Sergeant is absent the Staff Sergeant may take temporary command of that squad at his/her discretion. He/she will also assist the Post Executive Officers with their duties as needed. |

DISTRICT SERGEANT
The District Sergeant is responsible for keeping Explorers in his/her
district well informed about meetings, upcoming details and other such
duties as directed by the Post Executive Officers. It is the responsibility of
the Sergeant to call each member of his/her district at least once a week or
as necessary in order to inform the about events and new procedures. The
District Sergeant will be held accountable for Explorers who have not
been informed of current events and procedures. It is also the
responsibility of the District Sergeant to bring to the attention of the
Executive Officers changes in the status of the explorers in his/her district. |
DISTRICT POST OFFICERS

DISTRICT CORPORAL
The District Corporal has the responsibility of assuming the duties of the
District Sergeant in his/her absence. Other duties will be directed by the
Executive Officers and the District Sergeant. |
|
PRIVATE FIRST CLASS
Upon successful completion of the first year as a Basic Level
Explorer and graduation to the Advanced Level, the Explorer will
hold the rank of Private First Class. |
|
BASIC LEVEL EXPLORER
Upon graduating Boot Cam. p and successfully completing 90 days
probationary period the Explorer Candidate will become a Basic Level
Explorer. This explorer will remain a Basic Level Explorer until
graduation of the same year. |

POLICE EXPLORER CANDIDATE
Upon acceptance of application to the Montgomery County Police
Explorers this individual will be considered a probationary member until
the completion of their 90 day probationary period and Boot Camp. Police
Explorer Candidates are required to successfully pass a screening process
to be set by the post advisors in order to become Basic Level Explorers. |
